Sample question from test 8
signals-markings
A flashing yellow X appears above a New York highway lane. What movement is allowed in that lane?
- Left turns only
- Any movement except a left turn
- Travel straight at the posted speed
- No movement until a green X appears
Answer: Left turns only. A flashing yellow X is a lane-use control signal, not the same as a flashing yellow intersection light. It tells drivers that the lane may be used only for a left turn. A steady red X closes the lane, a steady yellow X tells traffic to move out, and a green arrow opens the lane for use. When the yellow X is overhead, move into the lane only for the indicated left-turn movement and follow any additional pavement markings.
