How we check every question

1. Every question starts in the official handbook

Each state bank is written from that state's own driver handbook, the same document its DMV tells you to study. We do not copy questions from the DMV's sample tests or from other practice sites, and each state's questions are written for that state: the audit below rejects a question whose wording already appears in another state's bank, with road sign picture questions the only exception.

Drafts are written with the help of AI writing tools working from the handbook text. Nothing goes live on the tool's word: every draft has to pass the checks below, and a question that fails any of them is rewritten or removed.

• 14,502 of 14,502 questions carry a word for word quote from the handbook passage that proves the answer.
• 14,415 of them also cite the handbook page, so you can look it up yourself.

2. The quote audit

A quote is only useful if the handbook really says it. We keep a text copy of every state handbook, and an automated audit searches it for each question's quote. If the quote is not found word for word, in the handbook or on the official page the question cites, the bank fails the audit and cannot ship. The same audit rejects a bank that repeats questions, reuses another state's wording, pastes the question into its own explanation, or has an answer key that points at a choice that does not exist.

3. An independent second reader

A quote that exists can still be attached to the wrong fact. So rebuilt banks are read again, question by question, by a separate reviewer (a different AI model or a person) working from the handbook rather than from the draft's own reasoning. The reviewer checks five things for every question: the marked answer is correct under the quoted passage, no other choice is also defensible, the quote supports this question and not a neighboring rule, the explanation states the right figure, and the question can be answered from what it says. Anything flagged is fixed against the handbook before release.

4. Fact redundancy checks

The errors that cost people the exam are usually numbers: a blood alcohol limit, a following distance, a fine, a number of days. A separate screen runs over the whole bank and compares the numbers in every question and explanation with the numbers in its quoted passage, and flags alcohol limits, sign descriptions, arithmetic such as stopping distances, and rules that may have changed since the handbook was printed. A flag is never treated as a pass: each one is settled by reading the handbook, and the fix is recorded.

5. Audio checked by two speech models

Many questions have a Listen button. A recording can drift from the text it was made from, so before a clip is published it is transcribed by a speech recognition model and compared word for word with the question. A clip passes only with no word differences; any difference in a number fails it. A wording difference can be confirmed as harmless only by a second, independent speech model that is never shown the expected text, so it cannot simply repeat it back. Clips are also tied to the exact text they were made from: if a question is edited, its old audio stops playing until a new clip passes the same checks. Where no verified clip exists, the Listen button does not appear.

6. Report a mistake

Handbooks change and checks miss things. If you think a question, answer, or explanation is wrong, use Report a mistake under any flashcard, for example on the California flashcards. Pick what is wrong and, if you can, tell us the handbook page. Every report is saved and emailed to Kevin, and a confirmed mistake is corrected in the question bank. You do not need to leave your name or email.

7. When each bank was last verified

Each state's bank was rebuilt from its current handbook between 2026-09-06 and 2026-09-08, and the last site wide check ran on 2026-09-05. A rebuild re-derives every question from the handbook and has to pass the quote audit, so the last verified date shown on a state's tests is the later of the two. When a state publishes a new handbook, its bank is checked again and the date changes.

The 1,034 handbook lessons (50 states so far) follow the same rule: every key point and number carries a quote and page, and the same kind of audit checks each quote against the handbook text.

8. Who is responsible

The practice tests are maintained by Kevin Vu, a licensed California insurance producer (CA DOI #4037122) at QualitySpace Insurance Agencyin Westminster, California. He is responsible for the process on this page and receives every mistake report. He is not a DMV official, and this site is not affiliated with any state DMV. Your state's handbook and DMV are always the final word, and the rules in them are what the real test is graded on.
