On a two lane road with a posted speed limit of at least 45 mph, what must you do near a protected roadside vehicle with activated signals?
- Slow to a speed 20 mph below the posted limit
- Keep the posted speed if you remain in your lane
- Stop directly beside the protected vehicle
- Pass on the shoulder at the posted speed
Answer: Slow to a speed 20 mph below the posted limit. Wyoming's Move Over rule gives a specific speed reduction for a two lane road. When the posted limit is 45 mph or greater, slow to 20 mph less than that limit as soon as it is safe, unless a police officer directs otherwise. Remaining at the limit does not provide the required buffer, and stopping beside the work vehicle creates a new hazard. Slow smoothly, watch the roadside, and leave room for workers or responders.
