Road signs
At the pictured stop sign, where should the vehicle stop first when a marked stop line is present?
- Before the marked stop line
- After entering the intersection
- Beside the nearest parked vehicle
- Only after another driver arrives
Answer: Before the marked stop line. A stop sign requires a complete stop at the clearly marked stop line. If there is no line, the stopping point shifts to the near-side crosswalk; without a crosswalk, stop near the intersecting highway where approaching traffic can be seen before entering. The crosswalk and intersection alternatives are fallback locations, not permission to roll beyond a visible line. A quiet intersection still requires the same full stop. Look for the painted line before the front wheels reach the crossing path.
