3 questions from the Hawaii practice test

  1. 1. How many documents are required to prove principal residence in Hawaii for a REAL ID application?

    1. One document
    2. Two documents
    3. Three documents
    4. No residence document
    Show answer

Two documents. A REAL ID application requires two forms of proof for the principal residence address in Hawaii. Each document must include the applicant's name and the Hawaii residence address. One document is insufficient, while three is more than the stated requirement. The no-document choice overlooks the security requirements. Examples include a current utility bill, telephone bill, bank statement, or medical statement. Before applying, compare the names and address details so both records actually establish the same principal residence.

  2. 2. Before Hawaii permits an applicant to take the driver license road test, which preliminary examinations are listed?

    1. A medical examination, a parking test and a county interview
    2. Only a written rules test and a vehicle registration check
    3. Vision, rules of the road and practical road performance tests
    4. A highway-speed test, a fuel-economy test and a vision waiver
    Show answer

Vision, rules of the road and practical road performance tests. The preliminary sequence has three parts: a vision test, a knowledge test about road rules and traffic control devices, and a practical road performance test. The choice that substitutes a registration check leaves out both the vision requirement and the practical driving evaluation. The manual also describes the knowledge test as potentially waivable for some applicants, but that limited exception does not turn the full process into a registration or medical interview. A useful preparation cue is to separate what you see, what you know, and what you demonstrate behind the wheel.

  3. 3. What vehicles does a Hawaii Category 3 license cover?

    1. Cars and light trucks of 18,000 pounds GVWR or less and buses carrying 15 or fewer occupants
    2. Motorcycles only
    3. Trucks over 18,001 pounds
    4. Any vehicle up to 26,000 pounds
    Show answer

Cars and light trucks of 18,000 pounds GVWR or less and buses carrying 15 or fewer occupants. The Category 3 driver's license covers cars and lightweight trucks of 18,000 pounds GVWR or less and buses designed to carry 15 or fewer occupants, and the road test requires starting the vehicle and driving through business and residential areas, turns, parking and backing. Single vehicles of 18,001 to 26,000 pounds need a higher class, and 26,001 pounds or more needs a commercial class.
