3 questions from the Idaho practice test

  1. 1. At the pictured stop sign, where should the vehicle stop first when a marked stop line is present?

    Red octagon STOP sign
    1. Before the marked stop line
    2. After entering the intersection
    3. Beside the nearest parked vehicle
    4. Only after another driver arrives
    Show answer

Before the marked stop line. A stop sign requires a complete stop at the clearly marked stop line. If there is no line, the stopping point shifts to the near-side crosswalk; without a crosswalk, stop near the intersecting highway where approaching traffic can be seen before entering. The crosswalk and intersection alternatives are fallback locations, not permission to roll beyond a visible line. A quiet intersection still requires the same full stop. Look for the painted line before the front wheels reach the crossing path.

  2. 2. Which statement describes the usual colors of Idaho regulatory signs?

    1. They are always orange and black
    2. They are always yellow and green
    3. They are generally blue and brown
    4. They are generally black and white, with some red and white
    Show answer

They are generally black and white, with some red and white. Regulatory signs communicate rules, restrictions, or required actions. Idaho describes them as generally black and white, while noting that some are red and white. Yellow and green are associated with warning signs and school warnings, orange and black commonly identify work-zone warnings, and blue or brown serve other sign purposes. When a sign controls what drivers may do, consider the regulatory category before interpreting the particular symbol or wording.

  3. 3. In an Idaho work zone, what do orange and black warning signs identify?

    1. Work zone warnings requiring attention to hazards and changing conditions
    2. A permanent guide route for interstate travelers
    3. A recreational area where vehicles may stop in any lane
    4. A special lane where barriers may be moved by motorists
    Show answer

Work zone warnings requiring attention to hazards and changing conditions. Orange and black warning signs are associated with work zones, where uneven pavement, narrow lanes, equipment, and gravel can create immediate hazards. Drivers should pay attention and follow the displayed controls. The guide-route choice confuses work-zone coloring with directional information. A work area is not a general stopping place, and drivers must never move its barriers or signs to cross a closure. Slow down, leave space, and expect workers and lane shifts close to traffic.
