Getting your first permit

In Oregon, the minimum permit age is 15 years old. When you apply for a permit or license, bring: parent or legal guardian signature, proof of physical address and identity, Social Security number or certification that you do not have one, and payment for the issuance fee. Fees, retakes, and practice hours

$7 each time you take the test. If you fail the knowledge test: may test again the same day, depending on DMV office testing resource availability. Before the road test, the state requires 100 hours, or 50 hours if you passed an approved Driver Ed course.

REAL ID, motorcycle, and CDL

REAL ID (star in black circle) is optional, not required in Oregon; costs an extra $30 per transaction; must apply in person with required documents. For a motorcycle license: minimum age 16 for motorcycle endorsement; must hold valid OR driver license and pass knowledge/skills tests or complete Team Oregon rider course. For a commercial license (CDL): minimum age 18 for intrastate CDL, 21 for interstate; requires knowledge and skills tests plus DOT medical certification.
