What to bring to the Louisiana permit test

Who this checklist covers: First standard non-REAL-ID Class E Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) visit for Louisiana-resident U.S. citizens ages 14-69, including minors and adults. Covers the OMV document visit before driver education/testing. National Guard Youth Challenge and pre-September-2018 course exemptions, noncitizens, applicants age 70+, and later learner/full-license conversion are excluded.

Bring originals unless the official list says copies are accepted. Items marked Under 18 apply only to minors.

Application

Identity

Bring two primary identity documents, or one primary and two secondaryFollow OMV Policy 6.00, revised September 16, 2026. Social Security number

Residency

Bring at least one original Louisiana residence documentIt must include your name and residential address. An immediate family member’s Louisiana credential is accepted when that household member appears with it. Parent or guardian

Bring birth/custody evidence and the signer’s identificationUnder 18A minor using a U.S. passport must also present a certified birth certificate or custody/guardianship evidence. Driver education

Keep the TIP for driver education and later conversionCourse completion is needed when graduating from the TIP, not to obtain it.
