Bring originals unless the official list says copies are accepted. Items marked Under 18 apply only to minors.

Appointments are required at most MVD offices. Book one through MVD online services before you go.

Test languages and ID

Test languages

We could not find an official list of test languages for New Mexico. Ask your office or check the Apply for a Learner's Permit | Motor Vehicle Division NM site before you book.

REAL ID

A permit does not have to be REAL ID. A Standard license needs no fingerprints and no Social Security number.

Good to know

You must pass the MVD Knowledge Exam. A contracted driver education school may also give the exam.
