Irvine patterns
Multi-vehicle homeowner households + UCI students
Irvine households often have two or three vehicles, owned homes (or owned condos in Woodbridge, Westpark, Quail Hill), and the financial profile to qualify for top-tier standard-market policies. The natural fit is Mercury or Travelers with auto plus home plus umbrella, plus a separate student-driver discount for UCI students still on the family policy.
For UCI students who keep a car at school, mileage matters. Carriers can rate as “student away at school” if the car is rarely driven by the student during the academic year, often saving 15 to 25%.

Questions from Irvine clients
What we get asked from 926xx
My daughter is a UCI freshman. Cheaper to keep her on our policy or get her own?
Almost always cheaper to keep her on the family policy with a student discount, at least through age 25 if unmarried. Her own policy at age 19 would run 2 to 3 times what the family discount adds.
I drive a Tesla Model Y from Irvine to Newport. Insurance considerations?
Tesla repair costs are higher than mainstream vehicles, which shows up in collision and comp premium. Some carriers have specific Tesla programs; we check appetite at quote. Telematics-based discounts (Tesla's own insurance, Progressive Snapshot) can help offset the EV cost premium.
State coverage
California policies handled directly by Kevin Vu (CDI #4037122). New Jersey and Pennsylvania policies handled in cooperation with licensed partner producer Sean Vu (Allstate). QualitySpace Insurance Agency does not bind coverage in NJ or PA directly.

Irvine in depth
What an insurance broker actually checks in Irvine
Local facts that change how a California auto, home, or SR-22 quote actually rates. Every number cites a public source (Census, FBI UCR, dmv.ca.gov, school district sites). No carrier numbers here are guaranteed; final premium depends on verified data from the carrier.
Overview
Irvine was incorporated December 28, 1971, and Census 2020 recorded 307,670 residents (the city's own demographics page lists a higher current estimate). When I talk to Vietnamese-American clients about auto insurance in Irvine, I do not write Irvine like Westminster, Garden Grove, or Anaheim. Irvine is a master-planned city tied closely to the Irvine Company, with clean villages, parks, office campuses, and newer homes around Great Park Neighborhoods. UC Irvine sets the academic tone, Irvine Spectrum Center generates retail and dining traffic, and the Irvine Business Complex draws office, tech, medical device, finance, and startup commuters. Median household income in recent ACS releases is very high, ranging roughly $129,647 to $145,731 depending on the dataset. That informs market context and vehicle mix, but I still start every quote with the actual garaging address, annual mileage, household drivers, vehicle, and the coverage actually needed.
Community and neighborhoods
The Vietnamese-American community in Irvine is not as concentrated as Little Saigon, but it shows up clearly in the professional, young-family, parent-of-strong-student, tech-worker, UCI academic, healthcare, and small-business owner segments. ACS 2023 5-year data places Vietnamese at about 3.7 percent of Irvine's population, large enough to need bilingual service but more dispersed across the city than Westminster or Garden Grove. I see clients in Northwood, Woodbridge, Westpark, Turtle Rock, Cypress Village, Portola Springs, Great Park, and near the Spectrum. Many families shop for groceries in Little Saigon on weekends, but the car sleeps in Irvine, so the premium has to be quoted on Irvine, not on the shopping or workplace city. For clients in Irvine homes, condos, or apartments, I ask about garage, assigned parking, street parking, EV chargers at home, and whether a child is approaching driver's license age.
Schools and teen drivers
Irvine is a city where teen-driver underwriting needs careful attention because schools are why many families moved here. Irvine Unified School District lists high schools including University High School, Northwood High School, Woodbridge High School, Irvine High School, and Portola High School. Beckman High School is physically in Irvine but belongs to Tustin Unified School District, so I do not infer district by city name alone. Vietnamese-American parents frequently ask whether adding a teen with a new permit or license will move the premium materially, what evidence is needed for a good-student discount, and which household car the teen should be assigned to. I ask for the transcript or report card when the carrier requires one, verify whether the teen completed a DMV-approved driver-education program, and check which car the teen actually drives day to day. Many Irvine students attend school close to home, but commute mileage still includes UCI visits, tutoring, sports, music, volunteering, and weekend activities, so annual mileage and driver assignment matter more than a generic claim that Irvine teens are always cheap.
Freeways, intersections, and theft data
Irvine has a distinct driving picture because freeways often run alongside toll roads. Interstate 5 and Interstate 405 are the two main freeways, connecting Irvine to Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Tustin, Lake Forest, San Diego County, and Los Angeles County. State Route 133 passes through Irvine and the northern portion connects to the toll-road system. State Route 241, State Route 261, and State Route 73 (some of which are toll roads operated by Transportation Corridor Agencies) shape commute choices for clients near Portola Springs, Great Park, Orchard Hills, and routes toward Foothill Ranch, Corona, and Newport Coast. Toll roads save time but also change annual mileage and route mix, so I ask carefully. Recent public FBI UCR-derived data lists Irvine at 221 motor vehicle thefts in 2024, low relative to city size. Theft risk is a strength here. The real cost driver is collision risk during commutes, parking-lot incidents at the Spectrum, school-pickup congestion, and the higher repair costs that come with luxury and EV vehicles.
How insurance is rated here
I do not write Irvine auto insurance as automatically cheap because the city is safe. Irvine does have lower violent crime and motor vehicle theft compared to many large urban areas, but my Irvine clients also frequently drive Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Lexus RX, BMW, Mercedes, Rivian, Porsche, Toyota Highlander, or new financed or leased vehicles. EV and luxury repairs can push collision and comprehensive premiums higher because of parts, sensors, calibration, glass, battery considerations, and body-shop labor. Under California Proposition 103, the required factors with the greatest weight are driving safety record, annual mileage, and years of driving experience; credit score is not allowed for personal auto rating. So I ask for the record, the real mileage, the garaging address, coverage limits, deductibles, every licensed household driver, and whether the vehicle is financed or leased. Clients with an Irvine home should also let me check the home-auto bundle, multi-car discount, and good-student discount for high-achieving teens.
DMV and post-accident process
Irvine does not currently have a DMV field office I can confirm. Irvine clients typically choose Costa Mesa DMV at 650 W 19th Street, Costa Mesa 92627, or Santa Ana DMV at 1330 E First Street, Santa Ana 92701, depending on whether they live near UC Irvine, Woodbridge, Northwood, Great Park, or the Spectrum. Laguna Hills DMV at 23535 Moulton Parkway was permanently closed by DMV on October 11, 2024, so I do not send Irvine clients there. I also cannot confirm 4045 Bristol Street as a current DMV field office. For a private-party purchase, a lost title, or a duplicate title need, the correct form is REG 227. For city-street collisions, Irvine Police Department handles the report. For freeway crashes (Interstate 5, Interstate 405, State Route 133, State Route 241, State Route 261, State Route 73), California Highway Patrol typically investigates and the report goes through the CCRS online system.
