Progressive Insurance

Progressive is the broad-market California option. Strong on auto, weaker on commercial / non-standard. Often the comparison anchor when we shop a household.

Independent broker note

How we work with Progressive Insurance

QualitySpace Insurance Agency is an independent broker appointed with Progressive Casualty Insurance Company. We do not represent Progressive Insurance; we represent you. This page is editorial information about a carrier we shop, not an endorsement. Coverage is bound by the carrier's written confirmation, not by anything on this page.

Primary lines we place through Progressive Insurance

What we shop here

  • Auto
  • Commercial Auto
  • Rideshare endorsement

Where Progressive wins

Rideshare, telematics-friendly drivers, multi-state portability

Progressive is one of the country's largest auto insurers (it passed GEICO for the #2 spot in 2022) and writes broadly across California. For QualitySpace's book specifically, Progressive shines on three patterns: rideshare drivers needing a TNC endorsement (Progressive's TNC endorsement is one of the cleaner California offerings), drivers with genuinely low verified mileage (California bars behavior-based programs like Snapshot, so mileage is the only telematics lever here), and households that move between states (Progressive transitions policies across state lines more smoothly than most regional carriers).

Where Progressive lags

Multi-policy bundles, AB60, certain non-standard cases

Progressive's multi-policy bundle discount in California is real but usually smaller than Mercury's. For most OC households needing auto plus home together, Mercury or Travelers comes back more competitive on the bundle. Progressive also doesn't have the same non-standard AB60 program Bristol West and Aspire run. For first-time U.S. driver cases without SSN, we usually route elsewhere first, then re-shop Progressive once the household qualifies for standard tier.

Why Snapshot isn't a California option

Behavior-based telematics doesn't exist on CA policies

Clients often ask about Progressive Snapshot after seeing national ads. It isn't sold to California policies: Proposition 103 and 10 CCR §2632.5 permit telematics only for verified mileage, not hard-braking or time-of-day scoring. The California lever is honest low mileage - if your commute shrank or went hybrid-remote, reporting that accurately is the discount. We confirm the verified-mileage options each carrier offers at quote.

Questions we hear at intake

Progressive Insurance questions from Westminster clients

Does Progressive offer rideshare insurance in California?

Yes. The Progressive TNC endorsement is added to your personal auto policy and covers the Period 1 gap (app on, no passenger) that Uber and Lyft's own coverage doesn't fully bridge. Without this endorsement, an accident during Period 1 can be denied by your personal carrier.

Is Progressive better than GEICO for California drivers?

Depends on the profile. GEICO is competitive for clean records and military-affiliated households. Progressive often wins on rideshare endorsement, Snapshot telematics, and households crossing multiple states. We quote both side by side when both make sense.

Does Progressive write SR-22 in California?

Yes, Progressive writes SR-22 filings in California, including on new business. We still shop it against Bristol West, Aspire, and Kemper, which are often more competitive on recent-DUI non-standard cases.
